Grammys Real Talk

And here we are, another award show behind us. If you went by the popular media, or Twitter for that matter, everyone looked FABULOUS and at least 10 different artists “just won the Grammys”. One of the freedoms afforded those of us outside the walls of the Conde Nasts of the world is being able to actually express an opinion (“everyone looks fabulous” is not an opinion). Its times like these I really miss Joan.

Once I saw Madonna in her Givenchy matador…whatever that was, I knew it was going to be an interesting evening. We love Madonna and she looks FANTASTIC, except….. as a Givenchy matador. Her performance on the other hand was wonderful. If there was one thing that really stood out to me, and something I’ve written about on these pages, its how far Versace has fallen. From Ariana Grande’s dress to Nick Jonas’s bizzaro suit and white hightops, I just don’t see “it” any more. Gwen Stefani’s jumpsuit was the only piece I saw that was even palatable and frankly I think thats really only because Gwen Stefani would look beautiful in just about anything. Sofia and I were really mixed on Miley Cyrus, but really Sofia was right. She looked fantastic. I’m still not sure what to think about Nicki Minaj. Sofia wasn’t impressed. I on the other hand am a big fan of Tom Ford and thought her dress was beautiful. We had a whole discussion about why we felt the way we did. I think a woman with features like hers, in another time, would have probably chosen a dress/fit that would “obscure” rather than exaggerate. These aren’t those times. If you’ve got it, flaunt it. A LOT. I hate devoting words to her but I would be remiss if I didn’t add at least a little something about that hot mess that is Kim Kardashian. The train wreck that is her fashion sense is the gift that keeps on giving. That bathrobe looked like it was stolen out of Liberace’s bathroom. I think it was fitting that Rihanna was last onto the carpet. I actually had to  research if Giambattista Valli made maternity dresses. As it turns out he doesn’t.

Dear celebrities, STYLISTS, USE THEM! I know no one in your inner circles would dream of telling you no, but NO! When you look in the mirror and say “WOW, this bathrobe looks FANTASTIC!!” its intervention time.
