Cary Grant – Simplicity is the Essence of Good Taste

“Don’t be a snob about the way you dress. Snobbery is only a point in time. Be tolerant and helpful to the other fellow—he is yourself yesterday.” – Cary Grant.

There are a few men who I think epitomize style, Cary Grant is one of those men. He did one thing that so many men seem to completely miss. Simple elegance. There were no garish ties, no trendy suits, he exuded classic sophistication. Every man should spend a few minutes and look back at what he wore and how he wore it. Maybe a simple grey suit, always pressed. A crisp white shirt always worn with a very ordinary tie. He may have worn a monogrammed pocket square but you’d never see his initials. Classic black or brown shoes. Never fashion forward, never on the cutting edge of anything. He admittedly never thought of himself as anything of a “dresser”. He believed buying one great pair of shoes was infinitely better than 2 or 3 cheap ones. He believed in buying the best suit you could afford even if it meant having less suits. Don’t wear too much cologne and make sure you’re stocks stay up. So many men miss these basic tenets of style. Buy quality clothes that look good on you and are timeless. “They should be undisturbing, easy and comfortable.”
